Help for the addicted and their loved ones.
Very few families today are free from the shackles, pain, and futility of addiction. Once we learn addiction is a complicated disease and not simply a lack of willpower, shame, or limited to particular social strata, can we be open to treating it. Janet Cruz describes the psychological and physiological challenges underlying addiction and the many factors complicating treatment. The visual pictures she creates to see the triggers and cravings facing one working toward sobriety are reminders for friends and family to look at their loved ones through compassionate, empathetic eyes. Her descriptions of the many types of addiction and a holistic method of continuing treatment offer hope for the patient and their loved ones. Developing Drug Addiction Recovery Skills by Understanding Addiction and the Brain is helpful for anyone attempting to sort through the complexities of addiction, especially those dealing with its dire effects.

Slight disagreement
The book is excellent very well written and researched but my issue with the book is that nothing is written from the Bible concerning recovery. That is the only way a addict is going to fully recover because I was once a addict and GodDelivered me so I know God is there but still the book is going to be an asset in my ministry. I’m studying to be a drug addiction counselor and I will certainly use information from the book. Overall well done

good content for understanding addiction
I was turned off by the cover of this book and almost didn't read it. I'm glad I did, though, because it has loads of good information for anyone interested in learning more about the disease of addiction. The author takes a practical, informative, compassionate tone without judgment. This would be an excellent book for either someone struggling with addiction themselves (current or former) or the loved one of someone with a drug addiction. The book is well-done.
