I'm not sure but it works really well. I use it for today to three day trips and can fit everything I need including a shave kit. It's large enough to hold all my stuff but small enough that I can use as a carry-on

The padding is 16" on the shoulder. However the straps can be expanded to 36". The waist padding is 9". However, the waist can be expanded to 48". The padding is NOT adjustable.

Q: Can the hip belt be tucked away as on the some of the other models from this maker?

No. it's always out. However, I've found it folds and lays fairly flat against the pack.
