Laowa Venus Laowa Full Frame Camera Prime Lens 9mm F/2.8 Zero-D Canon Eos-M Black

I am very pleased with this lens' handling and rendition. I primarily use the lens for digital painting from my photography if that is a qualifier, but I enjoy its perspective (14.4MM lens equivalent on my EOS M camera).

This is a great little wide angle lens you can use to walk around with when you want to take landscapes but not lug a full frame. The lens itself is solidly built and high quality. The control dials are easy to read and manipulate. You can also fit filters on it and probably should. The lens also comes with a mini-hood (which I usually don't use hoods, still need to try this one) and a 1 year warranty.So far I like the controls on the lens and feel it takes some great sharp pictures once you learn how to use it.It does have less distortion than some other wide angle lenses. So far I've taken it out in the dark and feel it does a good job at capturing night images without a tripod in tow.

The performance of this lens is top notch for APS-C (purchased mine in Canon EF-M mount). Lines are straight as can be. Corners are pretty sharp for such a wide angle lens. Also, this lens is tiny! It's so surprising it's f2.8 but no IS/AF helps keep the size down. Construction feels solid to me as the lens is metal (though it's not weather sealed).Now for the one thing I don't like. The aperture ring is pretty much de-clicked. Not totally but pretty much. This is concerning for me as I worry about mistakenly changing the aperture when I don't want to. I would prefer a solid, deep click for each aperture value but the aperture ring on this lens is very easy to change.Would I buy this lens again? Probably. I got it on sale but I think it's a good value for what you get.
