Alternative to Newborn Vit K Shot? Read here.
Do your own research and make your own informed decisions about your newborns. The Vit K shot has two options: one with preservatives and one without. Not all hospitals carry both. You need to ask them during your hospital tour or you can just walk in and ask. Yes, babies are deficient in Vit K at birth and yes, vitamin K is not absorbed as easily via ingestion/GI tract early on in their life. The intramuscular shot is the best way to get a high dose into your baby's body. However, it is way, way more Vit K than they need. Lot of speculation about this inducing jaundice. Our baby did not have jaundice nor did we let our baby get the Vit K shot. Could be anecdotal, but who knows? Bring it to the hospital! Order it in advance! Give baby their first dose within 24 hours of birth. Ideally, give during a feed of breastmilk, colostrum, or formula. Not without, but would probably be OK. Might just have upset stomach. Many countries are discontinuing the Vit K shot and going back to oral drops. Some countries don't do anything for it and their babies are widely doing just fine. God did a good job when he designed our bodies! Don't discount that! Humans have been giving birth for millennia without Vit K intervention. Almost all pediatricians (hospital or private practice) will really impress upon you the need to get it. Ours did! And she even tried to talk to mama when I stepped out. She must've thought she could convince her. Thankfully, we were united in our decision. Just goes to shown they push this hard! Some with good intentions, others because it's just their "policy." We did our own research and made a plan and have not strayed from it. Our baby is perfectly healthy so far. Less than two months old.Product is supposed to be thick and yellow. It is emulsified. I even called the company to confirm its appearance. They are based in Richmond, TX. You have to squeeze the drops out. It does not flow on its own. Drops onto finger, finger into babies mouth, put finger on roof of mouth, let them suck. They may not suck at birth, so just get it in and watch them kind of swallow. We found a plan online that we liked and have been following it closely. It states 4 drops within 24 hours of birth, 3 drops after one week, and 2 drops after another week. Continue with 2 drops every week until baby reaches six months old. We put three, spaced out reminders in our calendars for every Thursday. I will not list the establishment by name of the place who provided the guidelines for us. However, they are a private medical practice with hundreds of positive online reviews and were very thorough in their outline for administering the shot vs drops. After doing my own research beforehand, I really liked what I saw on their website and followed it.

Vitamin K drops
Great for baby post birth. Effectively, easy to administer

Happy with purchase
the best drop dispenser we've used- the "extra" sucks back into the bottle. Daughter doesn't like the taste- she has "super taste buds". I don't mind the taste. Trusting it does what it's supposed to do.

Used this as substitute for vitamin k shot
I used these drops as substitute for the newborn vitamin k shot. My baby was 1 week old when I gave him the first dose. They say to start giving the drops with the first feeding but I was unaware so I didn’t start until 1week later. I have a vaccine friendly pediatrician who was completely nonchalant about it. I gave him 2 drops every week up until he had his circumcision done, 1 month after he was born then I stopped using it. Everything went well, there was no excessive bleeding or any kind of complication. My baby is now 3 months old, exclusively breastfed, he hasn’t had any vaccines and he’s doing great. It comes in a small bottle with a dropper built into the lid. It is a white milky liquid.

Not medical advice, but I'm using this instead of the Vitamin K shot for my newborn.
It is somewhat thick but easy to put directly into my newborns mouth. The instructions I was given, (again, not medical advice), were to give 4 drops within 6 hours of delivery and then 2 drops every week for the next 3 months as prophylaxis against VKBD.

Great! Recommended by my holistic pediatrician
I mix 4 drops into my babies milk as recommended by her pediatrician as I opted out our vitamin k shots when she was born

Great Vit K shot alternative
Was never planning on giving my baby the shot, but was still anxious about potential bleeding. So glad I found out about these drops. Healthy 6 week old baby! (:
